One of Europe’s largest and most experienced producers of cell grown plants utilized Twinplast’s expertise in custom manufacturing corrugated polypropylene containers. Established for over 30 years, Cheviot Trees produce millions of plants every year in the UK. Their purpose-built, state-of-the-art nursery is a fully equipped commercial complex designed for the production of cell grown plants which are unrivaled in quality. Their robustness and vigor enable plants to establish and survive strongly, even on the most difficult of planting sites.
Having pioneered commercial cell grown tree production in the UK, Cheviot Trees remain at the forefront of the forest nursery sector, driven by a passion for supporting the plant health and biosecurity of our countryside.

The Brief
As a supplier of seedlings to major forestry, farming, conservation, hedging, and landscape organizations across the UK, Cheviot Trees required a high volume of robust, water-resistant trays to contain their products in transit. The trays needed to be lightweight while having the strength to bear the weight of the plants and withstand the rigors of carriage and transportation.
As an organization that actively promotes carbon reduction through commercial tree planting, Cheviot Trees have a wide-ranging commitment to sustainable practices. They wanted trays that were reusable and recyclable. Cheviot Trees saw corrugated polypropylene, also known in the industry as correx, as an ideal material for the trays.
The Solution
Twinplast’s advanced manufacturing capabilities enable us to produce corrugated polypropylene to a precise density according to specific needs. We took the client’s brief and deployed our advanced software to calculate the optimum density for a lightweight yet strong solution. The trays were designed to specification with built-in drainage holes.
Once the bespoke design and sheeting composition were signed off, Twinplast manufactured 12,000 polypropylene trays in total, providing a reliable, weather-proof solution to serve the required purpose.

Jonathan Cameron, Sales and Marketing Manager at Cheviot Trees, said:
“A lot of standard corrugated polypropylene products on the market are too flimsy to carry our seedlings, which are surprisingly heavy. Twinplast’s technical team is very experienced, and they came up with the ideal balance with a material that minimizes weight while achieving the necessary rigidity. Twinplast’s trays are also multi-use. They can be reused by our clients and many of our clients also return them to us for reuse. We’re very happy with the products, and we order them annually to support our business.
Twinplast’s service has always been excellent. They maintained reliable lead times for each order and were very attentive and supportive during challenging times like the pandemic, keeping us well informed at every step.”
Twinplast’s corrugated polypropylene is considered to be the most environmentally friendly plastic currently available. It is recyclable through normal recycling channels, and Twinplast encourages clients to return end-of-life products to our factory where we recycle them through our own internal waste processing technology.
